Import Snow Day/Delayed Start Info:

If FALA calls a snow day, this website will be updated by 7:00AM. Make sure to refresh your browser to make sure you're reading the latest information.

Here's a link to the newsletter sent to parents. This information was also mailed home.

FALA determines when to call a snow day independent of FUSD. We base our decision on the weather forecast given by the National Weather Service, road conditions, and snow removal efforts on our campus.

If FALA has not called a snow day, but roads in your neighborhood remain uncleared, we ask you to take your student's safety into consideration when determining whether he/she can safely travel to school.

For delayed start information, see our website.

FALA's Solar System

As many of you know, FALA installed solar panels last August. Here's a little bit about our system:

The FALA Solar System:

The system is composed of 228 panels or 57 kilowatts and offsets about 82% of our energy. Since the system was turned on Nov. 18, 2013, it has quietly produced 25.2 MWh (1 megawatt=1,000 kilowatts)! What does that mean in layman terms? Well 25.2 MWh is enough energy to:

  • Operate 221.6 years worth of 26 watt CFL's
  • Run your refrigerator for 15.3 years
  • Equivalent of 8,413,000 AA Batteries
  • Equivalent of 1,119 laps of racing at the Monaco Grand Prix
  • 17.8 tons of carbon offset (or the equivalent of 457 trees)

Financial Benefits:

Environmentally-we're pretty proud and financially? Well it gets even better! Teaming up with local installers Rooftop Solar and local investors, FALA was able to install this system for ZERO out of pocket costs, and started saving on energy costs in the first year. We will pay off the cost of the system for less than we would spend on electricity from APS. In fact, over the life of the system, FALA will have saved approximately $400,000, in addition to offsetting more than 3 million lbs of C02!

The Brighter Future Promotion:

For the entire month of May, Rooftop Solar has generously offered to donate $500 to FALA for every FALA homeowner who goes solar. We live in the sunniest state in the union, the cost of solar is lower than ever, and there are still great incentives. By going solar you can save money, the environment and help FALA build a "Brighter Future." Call Rooftop Solar to get a free consultation. Make sure you mention you want to "build a brighter future" and they'll donate $500 to FALA when you go solar!

You can contact Rooftop Solar via phone or online1.800.786.7080

To view FALA's solar energy production, take a look at this online resource which tracks our production and our usage.

Rooftop Solar worked with FALA's AP Environmental Studies class to use our solar panels in lessons about energy production.

FALA engages in reflection on our practices and analysis of our outcomes so that we can make change to improve the educational experience of all students. To that end, the FALA Council has focused on developing and implementing a continuous improvement plan with input from parents, students, faculty and staff. After gathering input this fall, the FALA Council is pleased to present our updated plan. Our Continuous Improvement Plan was first created in the spring of 2012 and we are making significant progress toward reaching our goals.
