2015-16 RE-ENROLLMENT FORM FOR CURRENT FALA STUDENTS

If you are a current FALA student and will be returning as a student for the 2015-16 academic year, you must fill out this re-enrollment form by April 20 to secure your place in the school. This form helps us complete our enrollment for next year's classes and understand how many open spots are available for incoming students.

OUR NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

FALA welcomes Laura Kelly as its new Executive Director, succeeding Becky Daggett, who led the school for the past five years.

Kelly began her professional career in journalism and has worked as a newspaper reporter, radio talk show host, travel writer, cultural columnist and magazine editor. She segued into journalism education in the early 90s and has taught at The American University in Washington, D.C., the University of Florida and Florida International University in Miami.

In 1997 Kelly received a Fulbright Scholar Award and taught journalism in Tirana, Albania, for a year and began an eight-year stint of living and working in Eastern Europe as a media trainer and consultant. In 1999 she was awarded a Knight International Press Fellowship to plan and create an international journalism program in Slovakia. She was recruited in 2003 to head the Journalism and Mass Communications Department at the American University in Bulgaria.

During her eight years abroad she worked with student journalists and media outlets in Kosovo, Armenia, Georgia, Burma and Mongolia. She was the executive director of The Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra for four years and worked for the Flagstaff Arts Council to create the ArtBox Institute, a professional development course for artists.

She was selected for a second Fulbright Scholar award, and returned to Flagstaff in December 2014 after spending a year in Kyrgyzstan teaching storytelling.

The Origin of the Seasons

FALA's first playwright-in-residence, Dr. Kathleen B. Jones, has constructed a vivid, compelling work loosely based on her work of non-fiction, Living Between Danger and Love. The play is entitled The Origin of the Seasons and focuses on a young female student who is murdered by her boyfriend, provoking a female professor to confront her own guilt about a traumatic loss in her past. The performances feature a trio of musicians performing an original score. After the performance, join Dr. Jones, the cast and Northland Family Help Center for panel discussions about domestic violence.

THE DAILY WEATHER REPORT

Check this space daily to see if FALA is having a regularly scheduled school day, a snow day or a delayed start day.

TODAY IS A REGULARLY SCHEDULED DAY.

FALA determines when to call a snow day independent of FUSD. We base our decision on the weather forecast given by the National Weather Service, road conditions, and snow removal efforts on our campus.

If FUSD makes any determination about the school day because of weather, FALA will alert you to our status in four ways: We will have daily updates here on our website. We will ask KNAU to make an announcement about FALA's status. We will have a recording on our office phone by 6 a.m. We wlll post our status on our Facebook page.

If FALA has not called a snow day, but roads in your neighborhood remain uncleared, take your student's safety into consideration when determining whether he or she can safely travel to school.
