- APPLY FOR FAFSA. The FAFSA is a government document that you will need to submit to all your colleges in order to be considered for aid. You can start filling out this document as early as January 1, 2010 (for those beginning college fall 2010). The earlier you can submit this form to colleges, the better. Do not forget that you'll need to register for two pin numbers: one for yourself and one for your parents. Please see the following websites for help:
- http://federalstudentaid.ed.gov/ This is a great website to help you get started on understanding how federal aid works. It also has direct links to the FAFSA form.
- http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ The official site of the FAFSA. DO NOT VISIT ANY OTHER SIDE TO FILL OUT THIS FORM. This form is free to fill out and if any other site/service charges you to fill it out, something is definitely wrong.
- FAFSA paper forms are no longer sent to high schools. To request a paper form, please call 1-800-4-FIN-AID. You can also download a PDF copy at: http://www.federalstudentaid.ed.gov/fafsa/fafsa_options.html
- IT IS STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO FILL OUT YOUR FAFSA ONLINE. THIS ELIMINATES MAKING ERRORS. To do this go to, www.fafsa.ed.gov
- Check with individual colleges to see if they also require you to fill out the CSS Profile. CSS Profiles are found at https://profileonline.collegeboard.com/index.jsp
