AIMS

Students are required to meet AIMS requirements in reading, writing and math to graduate. Students meeting these requirements in their sophomore year are not required to retake AIMS. At this time, the Regents Scholarship is still available to students who exceeded in these three areas, are graduating spring 2010 and meet the other scholarship requirements. The scholarship may be offered for future graduating classes: stay posted. The last opportunity to retake all or portions of the AIMS test to qualify for the scholarship is the fall retake session junior year. Please see further information under scholarships.

PSAT

Note that the PSAT, though not required for college entrance, is used in the selection of National Merit Scholarships.

The best means of preparing for either exam is to use the study guides provided through CollegeBoard and the ACT website since outside companies are not allowed to use actual SAT and ACT test questions. Still, companies such as Kaplan and Princeton review do offer study guides for both the SAT and ACT that may be helpful. Local bookstores carry such materials and resources can be found on-line. Continued non-assigned reading is important in improving reading skills and increasing vocabulary.
