Exploring Friction Lab

PURPOSE:

               To discover the relationship between the forces of  F_weight, F_Normal, F_Plane and F_Friction.

PROCEDURE:

               Use the CPO lab equipment to conduct experiments that measure the four forces:   F_weight, F_Normal, F_Plane and F_Friction. Find the relationship between these forces and the other factors that                affect  Friction.

WRITTEN ANALYSIS OF DATA GATHERED FROM EXPERIMENTS:

               You are working in four groups to conduct the experiments but each person is responsible for writing up their own analysis. Here is what I want to see and the order for the write up:

                              Abstract: a brief summary of what the lab was about, the experiments and findings. Five sentences max.

                              Description of Experiments: Describe the experiments and what you were trying to find with them.

                              Data: Charts of the data that was gathered for each experiment.

                              Analysis: Free body diagrams of the objects, forces and set up of each experiment. This is a visual description of the experiment and the data. Then draw force diagrams for each free body diagram.

                              Conclusion: A description of your findings that answer the Purpose of the lab.  This needs to contain the words:   F_weight, F_Normal, F_Plane and F_Friction. The conclusion and the abstract are similar. Tell me what you have learned.

                              Transference:  Five examples in the real world of friction and how they are related to your conclusion.

NOTICE

I need to be able to easily read and understand this lab. If your handwriting is as bad as mine then please print nicely or type it up. The free body and force diagrams need to be neat and labeled. I will be grading your spelling and grammar. Please do not ramble on and on and on in your conclusion, this is not intended to be a research paper.
