Complete Food Diary, A.2 – pp. 489-490.
Tuesday, February 8th
Analyze Food Diary - Calculate percentage of Calories in diet that comes from fat, saturated fat, carbohydrates and protein. Hint: Take the grams of each food type and multiply by how many Calories are in each gram. Fat = 9 Calories/gram, Carbohydrates = 4 Calories/gram, Protein = 4 Calories/gram. Then add the total Calories from all three. Divide the Calories of Fat by the total to get percentage fat. Continue with Carbohydrates and protein! Compare with approximate recommended percentages. Fat less than or equal to 30%, Saturated fat less than or equal to 10%, Carbohydrates approx. 50-60%, Protein approximately 10-20%.
Calories "burned" should roughly equal Calories eaten. Using the chart on page 498 in your textbook, calculate how many Calories you burn in a 24-hour day (1,440 minutes). Compare to your Calories in (food eaten) and write a short summary on these two situations of energy in and energy out.
