Attendance:

Absences mean loss of class participation and knowledge gained, putting the student behind in their education. Five absences (unexcused or excused) in any class will result in a deduction of 1 letter grade. Only FALA excused absences will not count towards these limits. Ten absences (unexcused or excused) in a class during a semester will result in loss of credit. If loss of credit occurs, the student will remain in the class as an “audit”. Students may petition for credit by writing a letter to their teacher and the Dean of Academy explaining their absences and outlining a plan for retaining credit and making up missing work. Petitions will be reviewed on a student-by-student basis. Petitioning for credit does not guarantee that credit will be granted.

Tardies:

Arriving after the beginning of each class period constitutes a tardy. Tardy students MUST sign in at the front office before going to their class. Tardiness is disruptive to the learning environment of the school. Any student tardy 3 times in one month (cumulative) will receive lunch detention. After a student reaches these limits each additional tardy will result in a lunch detention. If a student is tardy 8 times in one semester to any class, their grade will be deducted 1 letter grade.

Assignment Due Dates:

Projects and assignments are due on the announced date. Any work presented after the announced due date will result in loss of points.

Plagiarism:

Plagiarism is defined as a “piece of writing that has been copied from someone else and is presented as being your own work: or :taking someone's words or ideas as if they were your own” (Dictionary.com). Plagiarism means that a source has been used without proper acknowledgment. Restating someone else's idea in your own words is considered plagiarism unless you give proper credit to the source.

A charge of plagiarism can have severe consequences, including expulsion. If you have questions, consult the APA manual or the instructor.
